New Moon Extravaganza!!

Vary, Adam. "'New Moon' banks at box office." CNN.com. 22 Nov 2009. CNN, Web. 23 Nov 2009. .

This article tells us how 'New Moon' made a lot of money at the box office this weekend. It made 140.7 million dollars which is a huge increase from the first movie, which made 69.6 million opening weekend. Worldwide it made 258.8 million dollars which is a very large amount. An interesting fact is that 80 percent of those that attended 'New Moon' were women. It goes on to talk about all the other movies that made a splash behind 'New Moon'. Some of these movies are 'Blindside', '2012', and 'Planet 51'.
I think that this article shows how much money the media can pull in. I think 'New Moon' brought in so much money because it was a highly anticipated movie. It had a lot of build up, so people were very excited. The book appeals to women, and that's why I believe 80 percent of those that attended were women; not to mention dazzling Edward, and piece of steak, Jacob Black. I also think it made a lot of money because the budget for this movie was much greater than it's last budget. Therefore, adding in better special affects and action parts.

Disney's First Black Princess

Press, Associated. "Disney’s first black princess: So what, kids say." MSNBC. 13 Nov 2009. Associated Press, Web. 15 Nov 2009. .

Disney's first black princess is here! What do kids say? This article talks about kids reactions to this new princess. Their reactions are usual and normal for children, in that, they don't have one. They are just so happy that their is a new Disney princess. Parents on the other hand have a different perspective to this. Some parents are trying to get their kids to realize the significance of this new princess. They are trying to teach their girls that this is history. Although there is some controversy, in that this new princess is a frog half of the movie. Overall kids are still ecstatic for this new Disney princess.
I think this article has some very good view points on the new Disney Princess. I think it is great that their is now a brand new African American princess. Of course there will be controversy, because you can't please everyone. I also think that parents should not force their younger children to know in detail of what this means. Kids shouldn't have to worry about that kind of thing, they should just be allowed to have fun and live in the movie. I think the media did a good job in making an African Princess, the only thing that will be brought up is why the princess is a frog for a lot of the movie.

Edwards, Chuck. " Characteristics of a Successful TV Commercial." Helium. 01 Nov 2009. Helium, Web. 1 Nov 2009. .

This article talks about what makes a television commercial successful. It lists reasons and examples about what commercial producers do, to grab their viewers attention. Some of the reasons they listed are: know your intended target, define your message, tell of the product features but show the product benefits, tell a compelling story, be funny because you only get one chance, create a "Story Board", and don't skimp on production. It tells us how these steps help business's get their foot in the door. If their advertising commercials has these qualities, it will be successful. Overall, the main thing is the character of the company that keeps people coming back.
I think this article has some good points on how the media uses our strength's and weakness's to get us enveloped in their products or messages. I think the media does a good job of grabbing our attention by using the commercials they use. They play off everything we are interested in, and make us want whatever they are showing. I think they go through a great deal of time to do this, but it pays off for them in the end.
