Is Text Messagaing A Viable Media and Advertising Platform?

Karp, Scott. "Is Text Messaging A Viable Media And Advertising Platform For Older Demographics? ." Publishing 2.0. 12/Jun/2007. Publishing 2.0, Web. 18 Oct 2009. .

USA Today is now in partnership with 4INFO, a text message information service. USA Today is doing this to send ads to targeted USA Today readers. Readers can also get updated information on sports, weather, stock, and other types of data. They question if older aged people will engage in text messaging and using this new tool? USA today said "We’re trying to introduce the value proposition of these types of services and how they can be … relevant for someone who’s not 17 years old." The article believes that you can't teach old users new tricks.
I think that text messaging is a great way to use advertise and use the media. Most everyone has a phone, and if not you can send text to land lines with ease. I think that people aging from 18-50 are more likely to be more responsive because they use text messaging much more than people older than 50 in their every day lives. Text messaging is an easy, accessible, and fast way to get information to a lot of people, so why not use it? Advertisers and the media should use this as much as often and as much as the are allowed to do.
